How it works

Built from evidence.
Felt like a conversation.

You write — or speak

Type your thoughts or use Audio Capture — speak freely and Lull transcribes using your device's built-in speech recognition. Free, on-device, nothing ever leaves your phone.

13 frameworks, zero jargon

CBT, ACT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing and more — activated by what you're actually expressing, not by which mode you pick. The AI reads context, not checkboxes.

Lull asks one honest question

Not validation. Not advice. The one question you weren't asking yourself. A thinking partner that tells you the truth — gently, but without flinching.

Why Lull exists

The friend who tells you
the truth.

Journaling works. Decades of research back it up — writing your thoughts down, naming what you're feeling, and examining it on the page builds self-awareness and resilience in ways that talking alone doesn't. Therapists have known this for generations.

My sister-in-law is one of them. Over the years I watched her write out questions for her daughter to answer in a journal. Not a diary. A guided conversation with herself, designed to build the kind of self-awareness that actually changes how you see the world.

Then AI got good enough for teenagers to use it daily. Her daughter started asking an AI chatbot “am I being dramatic?” after arguments — and the AI told her what she wanted to hear. Every time.

That's the problem with validation-first AI. It's optimized to make you feel good, not to help you grow. Journaling works precisely because it doesn't let you off the hook.

One night I wrote her mom a long prompt — a framework for how an AI should respond like a good counselor would. Not with validation. With curiosity. With the one honest question you weren't asking yourself.

That prompt became the foundation of Lull.

Journaling works precisely because it doesn't let you off the hook — it makes you sit with your thoughts long enough to actually examine them. An AI that just agrees with you isn't journaling. It's a mirror that only shows you what you want to see.

— The origin of Lull
The science behind it

Expressive writing reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression, improves working memory, and strengthens immune function. Structured journaling with guided prompts produces significantly better outcomes than free-form writing alone.
